Interview of
DJ Andrew K The DJ from Thessaloniki, Greece, one of the best in the industry Interview added on Sun, 10 Dec 06 |

Hello Andrew, we're from Indonesiaclubbing.com, a clubbing website and community. We met yesterday in Stadium and here we are coming to see your gig!
Hey, how are you? Fine I hope!
Yes, we're doing fine. Thanks for the time, now we think we'll start right away since your set is coming in 15 mins...
Yea sure. From where do you want to start?
Let's start about...This is your first time in Indonesia?
In Jakarta, yes, but I haven't got to see the country actually.
You're from Greece. Not so many known DJs (known in Asia, of course) come from Greece.
I know, the night scene in Greece isn't that big as in UK or Holland or France, but you know what, I'm not the first Greek DJ to come here. Last year my friend came here too.
What's basically your genre?
Trance, Progressive, Electro, Tribal, depends on the crowd. I play what the public wants.
Do you prefer being a producer or being a DJ?
Both! I love my job. And it's very related. Most of the biggest DJs in the world are producers too, I think that goes along with the talents.
You've been touring around the world, haven't you?
Yes, before Indonesia I was in Colombia, Mexico, Germany, Jordania, Argentina, Italy, Czech Republic, Peru, Slovakia, USA, Panama, India, Turkey, Bulgaria...
That's a lot! You must have an interesting life, always seeing new parts of the world...
Yeah, and the best thing is that, I love doing what I do! Well there's a minus, it's you don't get to see your family and loved ones a lot, but that's the part of it, anyway, a DJ is not a DJ if he's not gone yet on tour around the world. That is the best way to improve your skills : playing gig everywhere, constantly in front of the public.
What do you think about the Indonesian crowd? I know you haven't seen your own, I mean based on what you witnessed earlier this morning at DJ Pippi's gig.
It's good. I hope there would be a lot of people tonight, since the place is huge.
Who are your influences?
A lot. DJ Leoni, one of my mentors for example. But I think there are so many great DJs in the world - you have to simply listen to them, because you need to hear a lot of good sounds to be able to produce your own good sounds.
What's your best gig so far?
Each of my gigs is good, I try to give my best.
Got any advices you would love to share with newbie DJs from Indonesia?
Yes, the advice I can give to them is : be creative and productive. Learn from others to derive the best in you.
Last question : what do you think about internet, websites and online communities/portals for nightlife scene?
Well, in Europe it surely helps a lot. I think in Asian countries it has just been started, but in another 5 years to come, even less, promotions through internet, as we have in Europe, will expand and play more important role. Not only for DJs but also for clubs and everything/everyone involved in the nightlife and dance music industry.
Thanks Andrew and best wishes!
You're welcome!
That day Andrew was actually having his birthday, although we didn't know about that, what a pity! Had we known about that, we'd have brought him some special present from IndonesiaClubbing. Maybe next time, Andrew, thanks a lot and Happy Belated Birthday!
