We love Paul - enough said!

A year and a half after his gig at the Embassy Playground Festival 2008, Paul van Dyk came back to Indonesia in October 2009.

The frame was different this time, because the event was held at X2. A place evidently smaller than the huge Playground stage, but also a chance to see Paul playing in a more "classical indoor condition".

We often have prejudices when it is about to meet and interview such a famous DJ like PVD is. We think they're impossible, unaccessible or simply, are way too arrogant to accord us a little of their time for a few questions, photos or autographs. And sometimes it's true. That was why we came to the interview place with a little worry that it'd not go smoothly.

Arriving at the Mulia Hotel around 10 PM, it was finally around 11 PM that the interview was started. Paul van Dyk arriving in the business lounge where the interview was held, all our worries were gone: it was a smiling Paul, obviously in a good mood and very nice, that we met that night.

Juice & Area, Paranoia O'Channel and Djarum Black as well as Indika and most certainly us were each given 5-10 minutes to talk and interview Paul personally. During the interview sessions, Paul was extremely nice, not minding us taking his photos at every moment. We gave him our legendary indonesiaclubbing t-shirt, and he signed another one for us.

At midnight, finally the interview ended. Time for us to invade X2!

The ambience was electric, with X2 even more crowded than ever, waiting for no-one but the World's Number 3 (DJmag Top 100, 2008). And it was a little after 1 AM that the show was really started. It was also interesting to see that Paul's set was started twice. First, a sort of warming-up, Paul, introduced by the MC, started his set with slow beats, and that during about 20 minutes.

And then, silence radio. Shadow dancers appearing on the new catwalk installed above the DJ booth. We felt the pressure increasing, and we told ourselves, yes, this time it would really hit off!

A second opening, simply excellent. If, generally, after the opening minutes, people's enthusiasm will decrease along with the beats, with Paul it was different. The quality of his sounds stayed the same all along the night, neat, pumping and inviting.

I honestly prefer the X2 set rather than the Playground set last year. Classic hits such as "For An Angel" and the new bombs such as "Home", all by passing through some Daft Punk sounds, the night was one of X2's very best in terms of music. Powerful beats that never left any place for a little breath!

All Paul's fans seemed to extremely enjoy the set.

We finished the night at Vintage, especially set into Paul's music for the night, the only difference was the sound level was less aggressive. A giant curtain of 6 x 3 m was mounted on Vintage's end side wall, transmitting Paul's face in live broadcast. A really nice effect.

And it was at around 4 that we finally left, while Paul was still ruling on his throne, and X2 was still densely packed.

Finally, I need to mention that this event will seriously be considered as the Event of the Year, and God knows that 2009 has seen so many great names so far!

A little note of regret would be that we'd have to wait so long for a next event with Paul van Dyk in Indonesia, while, we'd actually loooove to see him every week!
