Ken Ishii is a Japanese techno DJ and producer from Sapporo, also known under the pseudonyms FLR, Flare, UTU, Yoga, and Rising Sun.
Born in 1970, Ken was raised in an industrial environment within a city of Tokyo, altogether with Japanese traditions.
He was the first DJ that introduced the real Japanese soul into techno music, and this was the reason Richie Hawtin signed him to release his first album in 1993, under Hawtin's label +8 of America.
"He's original - at the time there was a lot of people from Asia copying the Western techno style, but this unknown 23-year-old Tokyo DJ brought an essential to his Japanese-inspired sounds and that was why I decided to sign him," Hawtin stated in an interview.
Since then, Ken Ishii has succesfully released a series of productions, albums, singles and collaborations - one of his productions was used by Sega in 2001 and his track "Let It All Ride" has also been used in the PSP game Lumines II.
Ken Ishii is coming to X2 Club Jakarta this November - watch out for more info!
