A regular at Stadium for well over two years now, I remain astonished each and every time I set foot inside the magnificently succesful one-stop entertainment center. Nightlife, the essential of it all
within four floors full of music, fun and pure clubbing frenzy.
This time the occasion was Balearic Soul.
For two consecutive nights, I attended two different places in two sister clubs that are Kampus, the young demoiselle of Jakarta nocturnal geography and its elder,
bigger sister Stadium.
If the Grand Launching night at Kampus has been very succesful, chic and Balearic Soul showed their softer, more mainstream side, with a piece of tribute to Michael Jackson and most certainly their
remix of success, Fish Go Deep's The Cure & The Cause, the second night the duo DJ lashed off their wilder selves and played a more individually artistic, less mainstream and more Spanish set.
World music was in the air. I usually don't enjoy sets with music I am not very familiar with, that is to say I tend to be a tad bit mainstream when it comes to electronica, but with Balearic Soul
on Saturday night at Stadium, even though I hardly recalled having heard the music anywhere else before - well maybe indeed I had not heard the music anywhere else because the tracks were new or were
simply good underground stuff - I loved every moment of the set. I had my ears and mind spoiled with creatively remixed tunes from various artists as well as from their own production.
It seemed that Balearic Soul brought a spirit of the different characters of Ibiza at both gigs they did - a classier
tone at the first night in Kampus and a crazier feature at the second night in Stadium.
And yes that is what Stadium really is: a place you can feel home while clubbing at the same time. A club where you can let off of your mundane bits and be a wilder, crazier, more open version of yourself.
It is exactly what I feel whenever Stadium is on my list of weekender nightlife journalist.
I had liked Kampus the previous night - a slightly more modern version of Stadium, a younger sister club - but Stadium is ancient and irreplaceable.
For hours and hours I was startled at the creativity rate both Gonzalo and Ramon were putting on their elaborate set.
Deciding it would be best to leave my astonishment away and get myself flown with the flow, I just imagined it must be years of hardwork and countless hours at the studio - real DJs aren't born overnight.
It is always hard to tear myself off Stadium once I get in - the aura of mystique lies within and fills the oxygene and silently kills your envy to go home - you just love to stay longer.
But dawn came a little briskly after about four hours of complete darkness under the lasered night sky of the fourth floor and, remembering that I would have to get up early and go to work on Monday, I left Stadium when Balearic Soul finished their set, sated with the quality event our holy clubbing Mecca had once again provided us with, content with photos I had taken, tired and tipsy but in a good mood.
Afterall, it was just the beginning of summer and soon Stadium will strike again with another great event!
